Step 1: Circumference Measurements
Using a tape measure and your printed worksheet, take your circumference measurements and circle in the CIRCUMFERENCE table of the MEASURING CHART as you go. Here are details on circumference measurements for each type of garment:
Circumferences for Knee-High (A-D):
As indicated in the worksheet diagram:
- cB = circumference narrowest part of ankle above ankle bones
- cC = circumference widest part of calf
- cD = circumference two finger widths below hollow of knee around head of fibula bone
Circumferences for Thigh-High (A-G):
As indicated in the worksheet diagram:
- cB = circumference narrowest part of ankle above ankle bones
- cC = circumference widest part of calf
- cD = circumference two finger widths below hollow of knee around head of fibula bone
- cG = widest part of thigh approximately two finger-widths below crotch
Circumferences for Pantyhose (A-T):
As indicated in the worksheet diagram:
- cB = circumference narrowest part of ankle above ankle bones
- cC = circumference widest part of calf
- cD = circumference two finger widths below hollow of knee around head of fibula bone
- cG = widest part of thigh approximately two finger-widths below crotch
- cW = narrowest waist, details in step 3
- cH = widest hip, details in step 3
*DO NOT PULL TIGHTLY ON THE TAPE FOR THESE MEASUREMENTS.
Step 2: Length Measurements
Take your length measurement and circle in the appropriate LENGTH table in the worksheet. Keep the tape in a straight line, going up the inside of the leg (not contouring to the skin).
For a knee-high garment length, measure up the inside of your leg from the floor to 2cm below the pit of your knee (D) as the worksheet diagram shows.
For a thigh-high garment length, measure from the floor to the widest thigh (G) approximately two finger-widths below the crotch (or pubic bone) as the worksheet diagram shows.
For pantyhose garment length, measure from the floor to the widest thigh (G) approximately two finger-widths below the crotch (or pubic bone) as the worksheet diagram shows.
IMPORTANT TIPS ON MEASURING FOR COMPRESSION KNEE-HIGHS, THIGH-HIGHS & PANTYHOSE:
The best time to measure circumferences for compression socks, stockings and pantyhose is when your limbs are at their smallest or 'emptiest', usually first thing in the morning, before gravity has had a chance to work against you. So if that's the time you measure, then that's the best time to put on your compression.
Lower leg circumferences for compression stockings and socks are best taken before you get out of bed.
Base of the toes circumference should be taken when standing and bearing weight on the foot.
Upper leg circumferences should also be measured whilst standing.
Leg length measurements are taken whilst standing, going up the inside of the leg in a straight line (not contouring to the skin).
Remember that a good fit is pivotal to effective and comfortable compression, so double-check your measurements and ensure that you have followed the tips provided in this guide.
Step 3. (Pantyhose only) Otherwise, skip to Step 4.
First measure cW (waist circumference) and cH (hip/butt circumference) measurements as indicated on the worksheet diagrams.
Then get your panty top fit using the table on page 2 of the worksheet:
- Choose your green product column, eg, ‘Mediven Plus’
- In that column, circle your size bracket using your cW & cH (waist & hip) measurements
- Should you circle underneath Maxi panty top in the column, then be sure to include this in your online size selection when ordering.
Step 4.
To order - Go back to online product page and ensure you make selections for:
- Size: I – VII (circumference) with or without Maxi Panty Top
- Style: Regular or Petite (leg length)
- Material: CCL I, CCLII, CCLIII (compression class – consult physician or therapist if unsure)
- Colour: *Note delivery times for various colours as you click on the colour squares.
*You must select one of each Step 4 item to complete your order.
